Chihuahua Puppies

ChihuahuaMom

After I got out of my meeting I immediately called my boyfriend and asked why he had even called for my permission.  "Call the vet!  What do I know after two hours have gone by at work?!"  The stress had spilled over my personal life to work, not good.  I had to explain the situation to my manager.  He was thoughroughly amused and wanted updates.  Everyone at my work was involved at this point asking for updates every time they used the printer next to my desk.  It was absolutely wonderful!
After my boyfriend finally made it to the vet he had a little time to wait.  Thank goodness they were nice enough to let us have a free visit back since it was within the 48 hour limit.  The veterinarians were extremely nice and so excited to have good emergency news rather than their usual sad surgeries.  The vet tied off the umbilical cord to puppy number four and squealed "I'm a daddy!".  It was adorable to hear and I wish I could have been there!
The vet seemed to think there really were no worries even though another half an hour had passed so my boyfriend trecked the little ones and their mother home again through the snow.
Two more hours later Ruca finally delivered her fifth and final baby puppy!  They were all completely healthy and squirmy.

All five puppies finally made it!!

The little runt is on the left and is mostly black from what we can tell so far.
The next puppy from the left is the only male.  We were hoping for one that looked more like the dad but to no avail.
The middle puppy is the first one born and it the mostly black female and the largest puppy.
The second from the right is the female and looks a little like a tiny cow.  So cute! They are all very pink/red right now.
The farthest on the right is the only brendle female.  She is already spoken for on their first day!
I am just happy they are all health with so many on Ruca's first litter.

You can see the tiny little pink belly of the boy in this picture.

They are so fragile in the beginning but Ruca was the best mom they could have asked for.  She was ok with cleaning them off herself and eating off the ambilical cords and all.  It seems a little gross but it is natural.  The vet did let us know that her letting the first three puppies drink from her would induce the birth of the final two which was true.  Obviously no one can really know what to expect even if it is the third litter and not the first.  It was really amazing to see how well Ruca turned from my baby into having her own.
